Bird Nests Progress & GoldiStark's attempt at balance

4/4/2020

The rainy days did not make finding materials for bird nests as inviting as possible, but some intrepid students did go out, collect materials and build a nest. Some students are on their 2nd prototype! Go Driscoll Engineers and Birders.
News on the street is that not only did 5S student Sara de Jong make a bird nest...
some birds have nested in her bird nest! Stay tuned for photos!

Also, below is an image I just doctored up while trying to communicate what fills up most of my brain these days.

Silver linings In topsy-turvy times.

3/21/2020

I would like to make a list of silver linings we experience during this uncertain time. If you have any, send them my way, and I will create a page of them on here.

Below is an article describing some mighty big silver linings that happens when hardships happen to a community. Click the article to read.

Saturday, 3/21/20- shopping at the Allston Trader Joe's, people were so chill and respectful as we kept our distance while waiting to go into the store. A vast difference from last Monday.  It was sunny. People were friendly, the staff was less exposed, and as a result of the structure and calm, the store was more peaceful than I have ever witnessed.
No panic. Lots of food. Silver lining.

As a result of creating systems, like waiting in line outside... you can see the difference. Common Good.

Greetings 5S Families,
The link from NPR on what is free right now could prove to be useful to you and your family. Click here.
Please let me know of what you find and I will post it.

Also PBS and WGBH are working hard to share an amazing array of material for students and teachers.

Here is the extraordinary show Nature- where 5S watched Owl Power, My Life as a Turkey and Murder of Crow movies.

Also, the BBC just published 10 hours of a Coral Reef Ocean Cam.
Of course 10 hours is a little long :) but after watching it for just a few minutes, I felt more peaceful  I highly recommend it. Click here.
Below are photos I took while gazing at our miraculous ocean world.

PictureDC Eagle In Nest
Today is the first day of spring! It's rainy, but rainy days were built for projects. Maybe you could construct a new design for an umbrella.

Today in 5S, it is Thursday Words-Day. The word of the day is 'boredom" It is the word of the day because there are lots of studies showing that out of boredom comes brilliant ideas. If you are always "doing" you are not always wondering and letting your mind relax. So, I hope that today, everyone on this first official spring day let boredom sing new melodies.

Speaking of new melodies, here is the link to the DC Eagle Cam: https://naeaglecam.org/
During the day, even if they are not in the nest, you can hear a plethora of birds singing to each other in the background. Because it is in DC you can also hear the sounds of the city. Sometimes, like right now 8:30 am, when I am on the computer, I will just have the DC eagle cam playing in the background.
